The Best Rabbit Hay Feeders 2024

Hello rabbit fam! Let’s dig into hay feeders today. There are a lot of options and we have tried about 100 of them so we thought we’d share our favs and make it easier to sift through all the options out there.

Wooden Hay Feeders

Pros:

  • $28 not breaking the bank

  • All natural, beautiful, and safe to nibble.

  • Attaches easily to the side of a cage or pen and will fit in a small space.

Cons:

  • Wood will inevitably be chewed on and may need to eventually be replaced.

  • You may need to refill this feeder twice a day if you have a larger bunny

  • If you have two or more bunnies, this feeder won’t be enough. You’ll want to have another feeder as well.

Pros:

  • Beautifully designed and made by hand in PA by real bunny lovers so you’re supporting a small business and family.

  • Different design options for your unique bunny home.

  • This feeder can hold quite a bit of hay and served two Netherland Dwarfs well.

Cons:

  • A bit of an investment at $105-110 and may eventually be chewed on and have to be replaced.

Pros:

  • Hide the litter box mess! A cute solution that serves both you and your bunny. Just don’t forget to change it.

  • Well designed for a litter box to slide right under the feeder.

  • Support a small maker on Etsy.

Cons:

  • Pricey at $380-420 + $90 shipping from Italy

  • Our bunnies chewed the edges, but only a little bit! Just don’t get too attached to perfection.

Metal Hay Feeders

Pros:

  • Easily accessible at just $10.

  • So easy to use! Just hang it on the side of the bars.

  • Metal cannot be nibbled so it will last forever.

Cons:

  • Spirited rabbits may knock this down in an attempt to communicate their dissatisfaction with your delayed hay service.

  • Only comes in black.

  • Small size may only work for one rabbit.

  • Some hay falls through the bars and may be wasted.

Four Metal Hay Feeders on Amazon

Pros:

  • Super easy to use and move around. We have ordered this again and again for Breadbox.

  • Perfect for a bunny set ups with multiple hay and litter box areas.

  • The metal loops on the back can be adjusted with pliers to create more secure connections.

  • Cannot be nibbled since it’s metal, so they last forever.

Cons:

  • Only comes in black.

  • Some hay will fall through the bars and may be wasted.

Plastic and Fabric Hay Feeders

Not my favorite options as I do not like that the bunnies can nibble on them and possibly eat small pieces! As a rabbit owner, you are already working hard to keep your rabbit’s gut healthy and moving. I would not risk impaction by using a hay feeder that could cause issues. If you do love the look of fabric feeders, find one that is made of natural fibers such as cotton or linen.
